Iran-US war latest: Tehran sends response to Trump peace plan after president mocks drone threat

Tehran has claimed to have formally responded to Donald Trump’s peace plan proposal on ending the war in Iran.

It sent its response to Pakistan, who has acted as the key mediator in the conflict between the two countries, Iranian news agency IRNA reported.

The full details of the response are not yet known, but the agency said that “according to the proposed framework, negotiations at this stage will focus on the issue of ending the war in the region.”

It comes two days later than expected, with president Trump telling reporters on Friday that he was “getting a letter supposedly tonight.”

Meanwhile, Trump on Saturday mocked Iran’s drone threat, comparing them to "butterflies", and posted AI-generated visuals depicting a US warship firing laser beams into the sky, triggering explosions. The caption read: “Bye Bye, Drones.”

Earlier, Iran warned it would launch a “heavy assault” on US assets in the Middle East if there are further attacks on ships.

Iran has threatened to tighten its grip on the Strait of Hormuz and warned that vessels from countries that comply with US sanctions against Tehran will “face difficulties" in crossing the strait.
